Teaching a New Subject

I am a computer technology teacher at an international school. Just one semester into the school year, I am amazed by what I have learned in such a short time. I attended a science and technology high school which was deemed the best public high school in the United States by US News and World Report. This is not to ring my bell; rather, it is to highlight the fact that my high school was (and is) cutting edge. When I went to high school (10 years ago), I learned how to create webpages in a text editor in html. There was no wysiwyg applications, digital video or photography, youtube, or web 2.0, to name a few. Almost all of these things I have have learned this year. Not to their fullest extent. Often just before my students. Or, learned from the students.

One thing I have never underestimated in teaching and learning is the power of reflection. I am starting this blog for just that reason - for me to reflect on my teaching, to document the teaching tools (or just plain neat gadgets) that I come across in my research, and perhaps, at some stage, as a place that other educators might come to share ideas.

But, for now, this is just a record of my journey in teaching a new subject that is constantly changing, moving, morphing, evolving, and sprouting strange tentacles.
